As you are most likely aware by now, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced new tariff/import taxes under Section 301 of the U.S. Trade Act of 1974 on August 13th, 2019 and Section 232 by the Department of Commerce which is a part of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. The USTR has confirmed that these additional import taxes apply to the aluminum sheet used to make beverage cans (“cansheet”).
Craft Canning will begin invoicing Section 301 and 232 Import Taxes on October 14, 2019. Craft Canning was officially informed of these taxes on September 30th, 2019 and will only be passing these straight through from the can manufacturer.
Beginning October 14, 2019, customers will see “Section 232/301 Import Tax*” as a line item on their invoices for BRITE CANS ($0.03/case) and ENDS ($0.01/case)
These taxes will be subject to change quarterly. We continue to work hard to minimize any impact to our customers and will update you should any changes occur.
